The Robins bounced back from last Saturday's narrow defeat by league leaders Fakenham to beat Kirkley & Pakefield after losing out on the opening day of the season at their ground.
Captain Dom Hunt picked up an injury in the warm-up and was replaced by Joe Brannan with the captain's armband going to Jacob Partridge.
It didn't take long for the Robins to find the net, as a ball into the area was met beautifully by Alfie Rogers to head Ely into the lead on five minutes.
Both teams fought for the next goal, but after a sustained period of pressure, Toby Lawal slotted home on 44 mins to give the Robins a two-goal advantage at the break.
The Robins were out for more goals and try as they did each effort was either stopped or saved in last ditch fashion by the visitors.
The Robins by now were creating chance after chance but the ball just wouldn't go in.
Full Time: 2-0
The next game it away to Woodbridge Town on Saturday, October 26.
The reserves were held to a 0-0 draw away to Hardwick. They are at home Saturday against West Wratting.
