Mulbarton is always a difficult place to get a result and so it was starting to look that way as the hosts took the lead on 10 mins as Tom Baird fired a free kick into Sutton's goal.
Both teams had chances to score in the remainder of the first period but the score stayed at 1-0.
Into the second half, things remained similar to the first period with both teams creating chances.
A number of the host's players received yellow cards during the match for various offences.
On 68 mins, striker Jack Friend levelled the game with a close-range strike and two minutes, later he put the Robins in front with a scrambled strike after two attempts by the home side to clear the danger.
The game never looked over and on 88mins, substitute Ben Thompson levelled the match.
However it was to be the Robins who would snatch the points after substitute and debutant Sam Tagg was picked out in the area, and on 94 minutes slotted home the winner.
