Ely's walking football team - the Paradise Pedestrians - journeyed to Norwich on July 15 to play in the final of the Over 60's Eastern Division of the National Cup.
There were 96 teams from all over the country taking part in the National Cup this year.
A bye in round 1, followed by victories against Stamford Strollers and Eastwood Falcons of Southend led the Paradise Pedestrians to the Eastern Regional Final against Norwich Community, who have been national finalist twice and winning it two years ago.
Sadly, Ely's run ended there with a 2-1 defeat but it was a testament to the camaraderie and competitive spirit of Walking Football National Cup.
Formed in early 2016 and originally based out of the Paradise Leisure Centre in Ely; the Paradise Pedestrians bring together a group of over-60s who share a passion for the game of football.
The club now has around 40 members - both men and women - and they hold two sessions per week.
These are on Monday afternoon at Ely Outdoor Sports Association on the all weather pitch between 2.30 and 4pm; and on Fridays they have an hour’s session at the Paradise Centre from 3.45 to 4.45pm.
And it is not just the football; the club is also a social network for those who are no longer working and the support and camaraderie is truly amazing.
If you’re over 60 (or nearly there!) and are looking to put some vim back in your life why not consider having a go at walking football. It’s a chance to relive the game and create new memories.
