Members of the Ely Sailing Club took part in the second event in the Cambridgeshire Youth Sailing League and placed extremely well.

The event was hosted by the Grafham Water Sailing Club, and saw the Cambridge, Ely, Grafham, Huntingdon and Paxton Clubs compete.

Kieran Vanhoutte, Edward Human and Michael Hatton, all of Ely Sailing Club, saw great success at the competition on June 1.

The first race, which Kieran Vanhoutte competed in, saw onshore winds at 17 knots, with gusts up to 25 knots.

The start was split into three flights, with places on handicap combined into one set of results. The race officer had laid a trapezoid course, with an upwind gate allowing results to be calculated on average lap time.

The competition at the front of the fleet was very keen, and there was one minute of corrected time separating the first three places - Kieran Vanhoutte of Ely competing in an ILCA4, Tim Evans of Grafham in an ILCA7, and Adele Burbidge of Grafham in an ILCA4.

Behind these three, there was another one minute of corrected time that separated the next three boats (all Toppers). They were - Edward Human of Ely, Freddie Reeves of Grafham, and Edward Millet of Cambridge.

The finishing order of these five was the same in both of the afternoon races - Tim Evans of Grafham came first, Adele Burbidge of Grafham came second, Kieran Vanhoutte of Ely placed third, Skye Collard of Grafham came fourth, followed by Edward Human of Ely.

The event was won by Tim Evans with two firsts, followed by Ely's Kieran Vanhoutte in second, and Adele Burbidge finished in third place.

Edward Human, who placed fifth overall, came first in the Under 15 category.
