Cup double for Ely City Reserves after win at Histon

They took on league champions great Shelford in the final of the Cliff Bullen challenge cup.

The Robins started well and could have taken a early lead on the fifth minute, but this was foiled by the Shelford defence.

Shelford created a number of chances during the first half, but were unable to break down a resolute Robins determined to grab that cup double. 

A entertaining first half ended 0-0.

Minutes after the start of the second half, Shelford hit the post and were made to suffer for not taking the lead, as some great play left Josh Knight the opportunity to blast a unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Shelford net.

However, the Robins found themselves down to 10 men five minutes later as Kyle Moran saw a straight red after verbally reacting to a foul.

The Robins were under a lot of pressure for the remainder of the match, but it was Ely who had the best chance to score at the death coming close via Dani Carvalho.

After seven nervous minutes of injury time the referee blew for full time to the delight of all associated with the Robins!

The Reserves last home game is on Saturday against Cambridge University Press. Kick-off is 3pm.  Also it's the Women's last home game on Sunday against South Lincolnshire Swifts. Kick-off is 2pm.
