Roller Skaters from Cambridgeshire Artistic Roller Skating Club (CARSC), based in Ely and Soham, have performed "wonderfully" in the first round of the national Roller Cup competition.

Seven CARSC skaters travelled to Maidstone on May 13 and May 14 for the GB Skate Artistic national competition, with five of the younger and most inexperienced skaters competing for the first time.

Competing against skaters across the country, everyone competed in different classes according to their age, with the ages of the CARCS skaters ranging from nine to 17.

Chair of CARSC, Charlotte Nuttall, said: "It was fantastic because it was a first time out at a Roller Cup for a lot of the skaters, so considering that, placing even mid-table is a big success."

Some of the skaters have only been performing for seven months, and every one of them secured a high mid-table finish.

Elina Phillips, the most experienced of the CARSC members, managed an impressive second-place finish in the Free Dance amongst eleven competitors.
