Several of Ely Tennis Club’s teams began their promotion push with impressive starts to their 2022-23 Cambs Dunlop Winter League campaigns.
The ladies’ first team sit second in Division Four following victories over Cambridge-based Cocks & Hens and Cambourne.
While the ladies’ 2nds have won three of the four matches played in Division Five so far, having seen two matches rearranged due to heavy rain.
Meanwhile, Ely’s ladies’ third team have achieved some positive results with wins and a draw in Division Seven as they push for a promotion spot.
The men’s first team are in triumphant mood having won four of five matches to sit second in Division Four.
Their only loss so far has been to CLTC of Cambridge, who top the table and victory against Great Shelford on December 14 could secure promotion.
In Division Eight, Ely men’s 2nds continue their unbeaten record.
So far, they have recorded four wins from four and still have a match against Duxford in January, which is due to be hotly-contested.
The autumnal weather has led to one game being postponed, although the threat of rain may have encouraged the team to its most decisive win so far when the opposition managed to win five games in total.
In Division 10, Ely 3rds have won four of five matches and victories against Milton and Great Shelford could see them claim second place.
While in the same division, Ely 4ths remain without a point and rooted to the bottom of the table with two league games remaining.
Ely mixed first team is holding off St Neots mixed 2nds by a point as the two meet on December 11, which could prove key in the battle for promotion from Division Four.
Ely’s mixed third and fourth teams aim to prevent a bottom-placed finish in Division Six.
Rachel Peacock, chair of Ely Tennis Club, said: "We are delighted to have so many teams in the winter leagues this season and are pleased to have entered two new fourth teams.”
