An East Cambridgeshire man is aiming to break a Guinness World Record for longest gym session ever.

Adam Novak will take on his challenge at Littleport Leisure Centre to raise awareness of mental health following the loss of several of his close friends.

Adam, who was born in Hungary, said: "It was really tough when a friend of mine who had been with me for over 40 years took his own life in September because of mental health problems.

"It really hit me hard and I decided to do something to honour his memory and raise awareness about the issue that so many of us are dealing with."

This inspired Adam to set himself the task of completing a 24-hour non-stop gym session.

While the current record is 13 hours, he hopes to beat that on January 13.

He said: "I've been into sports since I was young and joined a gym aged 17. I was instantly hooked on the vibe and have been going ever since.

"It's like my happy place and a source of inspiration for me."

He has since contacted several athletes and influencers to see if they would support his cause.

All was going well until Adam dislocated his collarbone at the start of October. That's not going to stop him, however.

"It was a struggle - mentally, physically and emotionally," he said of training since.

"It was hard to even get to the gym, but my wife got me through it!"

Littleport Leisure Centre is located at Camel Road, CB6 1EW.
