Littleport loves a competition, says columnist Lyn.
This Sunday (November 24), the musicians of the Littleport Brass Band are in Loughborough for the Leicestershire Brass Band Association’s 3rd Section Contest.
They will play their own choice of a test piece competing against eight other bands.
Their next appearance is in Ely Cathedral for the Community Carol Sing, on December 7.
Then, on Friday November 22, we have an always popular quiz night with Chris Bennett, in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club.
Teams of 2-6 players at £2 per person with a special ‘envelope pick’ during the break by Usher, Mick Bennett’s guide dog – everyone puts £2 into an envelope.
These are then placed on the ground and Usher places a paw on the winning one. It’s 7.30pm for an 8pm start.
Littleport people love to fundraise while they’re having fun.
And thinking, too, of Christmas and gifts, an opportunity not to be missed is a visit to the fundraising Christmas Fayre at Branching Out on Saturday November 23.
There are stalls, a tombola, games and Santa’s Grotto. Entry £1, under 12s free. From 10.30am to 1pm.
The organisation supports adults with learning difficulties at their day centre at 27 Grange Lane CB61HW.
Centre users make the most wonderfully crafted articles, and upcycle things you would not believe, making them useful again in different guise.
They also have a preloved goods shop, Branching Out, next to the Methodist Church in High Street, that also sells handcrafted objects.
From 12-3pm on Saturday, there’s also a Winter Craft Fair at Clare’s Kitchen, Sharman’s Garden Centre, Camel Road. Super-cook Clare says “all items are handmade locally.”
Saturday night from 8pm the Plough and Harrow at 61 Ely Road has music by ‘The Sound of Pop Art’ that Steve Shipp says “is not to be missed".
At The Crown Inn from 8.30pm, Sally Spencer says “we welcome back the amazing Gemma B with a variety of popular songs”.
And earlier, 5-8pm., the Pizza Mondo traditional wood-fired pizzas food van is in their car park.
