Littleport’s population has always embraced progress and new ideas, says columnist Lyn Gibb-de Swarte.
The new landlady of the Crown Inn, the live-wire Sally Spencer, in the first weekend of her tenure, has turned Littleport’s oldest pub into a cosmopolitan street-food tourist attraction.
Last Friday, Tom’s jacket potatoes did a roaring trade, and Saturday the Pizza Oven delighted the official opening party revellers.
On Saturday November 9, at 8pm it’s landlord Rob Clarey’s 15-year anniversary and retirement party. It’s free with singer Rosie, Simon Rose, and all are welcome.
This Friday (November 8), the Tibet Flavour van will plot up in the car park from 5pm bringing tasty Tibetan cuisine from the misty Himalayas to our town nestled in the often misty flat land of the fens.
Sally remarked on how many new faces came at the weekend and looks forward to welcoming more every foodie Friday this month - Mexican, Hong Kong, Neapolitan and Filipino.
The rest of the week all customers are welcome to bring in their own food from Littleport’s popular takeaways and food retailers to eat with their drinks. Littleport loves fundraising for good causes and having fun doing it.
Last Saturday Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club was jumping to the sounds of Soul Fusions – an event raising money towards Hannah Moden’s charity run in the 2025 London Marathon for the Arthur Rank Hospice. It raised £1,040. It was a real family affair!
David Murfitt and his son Joe are the DJs and Hannah is David’s daughter and Joe’s sister!
Hannah’s mother Amanda is also a DJ and they are all accomplished runners too who support the Littleport parkrun.
And this Friday (November 8), the Ex-Servicemen’s Club has its Children in Need Family Disco, entry by donation,7.30pm til late.
On Saturday, it’s 50s 60s 70s music by Coast at 8pm £3 members £5 guests.
The Plough and Harrow is thriving under new management and has its new second Saturday of the month Jiffy Karaoke, that was packed last time, this Saturday 9, from 8pm.
