An Ely teenager is one of 35 across the UK selected as a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Youth Ambassador.
Seventeen-year-old James Wallman, a Cadet Flight Sergeant at 1094 Squadron, was selected on November 4 to advocate for young people.
The Youth Ambassador programme involves award holders aged 16 to 24 who share their expertise on issues impacting young people.
Mr Wallman, who achieved his Gold Award through Cadets, aims to encourage others to begin their DofE journeys.
Mr Wallman said: “I am really passionate about DofE, so it’s amazing to be able to represent it nationally.
"As a Youth Ambassador, I want to encourage people to start their own DofE journeys; it’s so rewarding.”
His DofE journey saw him join his school's litter picking scheme for his Bronze volunteering section, eventually expanding his efforts to include weeding and sweeping leaves for his Silver award.
These efforts helped transform an overgrown area into a community space.
The teenager also took up unusual activities, including drama for his skill, landing a role in his school musical, Little Shop of Horrors, and aerial hoop for his physical section.
Mr Wallman said: “My mum introduced my sister and I to the sport, and we’ve even won some competitions and talent shows as a double act.
"It’s great fun, and it keeps you fit as it takes a lot of energy and skill.”
The Youth Ambassador programme, funded by The Gosling Foundation, puts young people at the forefront as future leaders, involving them in shaping the DofE’s work to benefit other young people.
Ashley Williams, UK youth engagement manager at The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, said: “James is one of many young people who has achieved incredible things through their DofE.
"As a charity, we’re determined to put young people at the heart of everything we do and to give them as many opportunities as we can."
