For a very long time Conservative councillors have been chasing the hard-working County Highways officers to make Whitecross Road Wilburton/Stretham fit to be used as a road for all traffic. The road is unsafe.
A group of 7 pupils from Witchford Village College rely on Cambridgeshire County Council to transport them to school.
Now the coach operator (Greys) have said the state of the road is "dire" and they cannot transport these pupils on their daily return trips. (Ely Standard October 10, page 3).
The county council has now had to hire two additional taxis every day at goodness knows what cost to get these pupils to and from school. This extra cost would not have been necessary if the county administration (Lib Dem lead) had listened to residents and kept this road in decent/safe condition?
One asks if the Milton Road, the Histon Road and Mill Road Bridge millions in Cambridge was money well spent?
East Cambs should have a fair allocation of funds to keep our roads safe and the public money should be spent wisely.
Bill Hunt
Conservative Cllr for Stretham and Wilburton.
