Just like the old hymn book, Littleport is a good mix of ‘Ancient and Modern!’ says columnist Lyn Gibb-de Swarte.
Littleport has some very ancient buildings, and some very modern ones too.
I should point out that, even in older edifices like St George’s Parish Church, started in the 14th century, and the 19th century St John’s Methodist, their social usage interior spaces have been updated.
The old Salvation Army Citadel in City Road was recently acquired by the Town Lands Charity, around since 1571. They renamed it Feoffees Hall and refurbished it for wider community use.
The newest arrival, of course, is the purpose-built Youth and Community Centre.
Newer still, albeit outdoors, and adjacent to it, is the play park on Cornfield Lane, within the environs of the new – and ever-expanding over the fields – housing complex called Highfields.
Littleport loves its sports, and the replacement leisure facility, Littleport Leisure in Camel Road, is home to many healthy activity sessions and clubs, including Parkrun at 9am on Saturday.
Ely Roller Skating Club is based there too. For their weekly schedule and more, call reception on: 01353 373800. From learners to international competitors, all are made welcome.
Both levels are often seen mingling during the fun skate from 9.15-10.45am with a ‘learn to skate’ class afterwards on Saturday mornings.
Last week, ERSC entered the Roller Cup Round 3 at Middlesborough. Charlotte Clarke came third (free dance) and third overall. Sophia Carter was second (free dance), second overall.
Alisha Turner, Imogen Taylor, and Ellie Bennett came third in their dance.
Kiera Clifford came third in dance but achieved a first place (free dance) and was first overall.
They all qualified for the finals in their age groups.

The Crown Inn, Crown Lane/Main Street, has a beat the clock pool competition this Friday (September 13). Register 7pm. £5. Start 7.30pm. Call Sara on: 01353 862700.
Saturday free karaoke at 8.30pm. Sunday it’s big screen footie Spurs v Arsenal, from 2pm.
