A two-month closure planned for a major Cambridgeshire road has been delayed until next year, Cambridgeshire County Council has confirmed.
Chain Causeway, in Sutton near the New Bedford River, was due to undergo vital works including carriageway resurfacing and other improvements.
The closure was expected to last from September 2 to November 25 with motorists advised to plan their journeys if travelling nearby during that period.
Cambridgeshire County Council initially said it was closing the road to "facilitate carriageway resurfacing and associated works."
It added the works would have continued until they were finished or on March 1 2026, "whichever is the earlier".
Emergency access was due to be maintained at all times for police, fire, ambulances and other services with a diversion route taking motorists via the B1381, A142, A1421, A1123, and B1381.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council confirmed that after consulting with the project manager, the reconstruction would not be happening "until early next year."
They added: "We’re currently aiming for January-March 2025, but we’ll publish more details, once confirmed, closer to the time."
Chain Causeway has a length of approximately 1,873 metres.
