Fun factor makes Littleport life so attractive for many, says Lyn of Littleport in her latest column.
Because the Ely Standard is on the internet, this weekly column is accessible hundreds and thousands of miles from the town’s boundaries.
“I think I want to live in your village, you have so much fun!” so said my old champion ice speed skater and Midlands-based friend Denise Vaughan.
Her sentiments were echoed by other friends like Vermont USA resident ice speed skater, horsewoman and water sports afficionado Diana Hanks.
And another fun time was had by everyone who attended last week’s monthly 2pm Afternoon Music Club for the older but not so mature, at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club.
Just to let you know, so that you can start getting ready in good time, that the next one is on September 19 with DJ Derek ‘Mr Music’ Timbers.
This Saturday, the Ex-Servicemen’s Club presents an evening for all age groups when popular singer Simon Rose entertains from 9pm.
The Crown Inn’s Rob Clarey and Sara Alexander who are renowned for their community fundraising efforts as well as being welcoming mine hosts offer customers musical entertainment with Brian Spence from 8.30pm.
Last week’s charity football match between the Crown Inn team and Ely FC at Littleport Leisure Centre raised over £450 for Conor Logan’s Great North Run for the Stroke Association.
Won by the Crown (5-3) Finley Logan refereed, and Conor presented the trophies. Mitch Drewitt got Man of the Match.
Littleport Town FC and Lanterns Motor Cycle Club helped to make this a very successful event.
With unrivalled leisure and recreation facilities – a packed itinerary of eclectic activities at the Littleport Leisure Centre and places to eat like La Strega and Habis in Main Street or the Swan at Sandhill Bridge by the river, it’s not surprising that hundreds of people and families, having had the same thoughts as my friends mentioned earlier, are indeed moving into Littleport.
There are Facebook pages - Littleport Life Magazine and Littleport Living Extra - that I present, and the town council run www.littleportwhatson.com that are accessible to all wherever they may live – even outside Littleport.
