An East Cambridgeshire family is hosting a fundraising event as part of their campaign to make child headstones more affordable for families this weekend.
Kira Partner and Kieran Power from Stretham will host the Finley Family Fun Day and Dog Show on Sunday September 8 in memory of their son Finley George who died suddenly at just six weeks old.
It is the couple's latest fundraising endeavour after establishing the Finley George Fund in a bid to support bereaved families unable to afford headstone for their child.
Kira, 26, and Kieran 29, set up the fund after realising how expensive it was to purchase their desired headstone following the burial of Finley.
The couple were eventually able to afford the memorial with financial support from their families but they knew not all parents would be in the same situation.
Kira told the Ely Standard: "We desperately want to keep Finley’s memory alive, and to help others in the same horrible situation we were in.
"One cost that we didn’t foresee was the headstone for Finley’s grave. We designed a special Lion headstone to match his order of service.
"We wouldn’t have been able to afford such a beautiful headstone for our Finley without our families help, and we know not everyone is in that position so we have thought about doing something to help for a very long time.
"That’s how the Finley George Fund came about. We are now dedicating all of our free time to fundraising so that other families in and around Cambridgeshire can afford the headstone their babies deserve."
The fun day is being held at the Little Thetford sports field and village hall, the day before Finley's fifth birthday.
The couple has received support from a number of local businesses who have donated items for the event's raffle draw, stalls and more.
Kira and Kieran, who have since gone on to have two more children, Elsie and Archie, added: "I am so proud of the progress we have made in Finley’s name and want to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who has made this possible.
"We have offered our support to one family so far, but we are going to make it our mission to help hundreds more."
