Constituents in Ely and East Cambridgeshire woke up to the news yesterday morning (Friday) that Lucy Frazer will no longer be their MP.
She had been the area’s representative in parliament since 2015 and the culture secretary since February of last year.
Ms Frazer, a Conservative, had also previously served as minister for the prisons and probation, transport and housing.
However, in the early hours of July 5, she lost her seat to Liberal Democrat candidate Charlotte Cane by 495 votes.

Public reaction online to the news has understandably been mixed.
While some are pleased the area now has a new MP and a different party, others felt Ms Frazer was really good in the role.
“[Lucy Frazer] has helped me in the past with everything I needed,” said one person in a comment about the election result on Facebook.
Another said: “She responded to my letters and supported me with my needs – couldn’t have got where I am now without her help.”
Others, on the other hand, were not quite so complimentary.
"Lucy Frazer was a terrible MP,” said another Facebook comment.
“When she did reply to me, it was a template that she clearly did not write herself, full of bigotry.”
It was pointed out that the sheer volume of emails MPs receive makes it difficult for them to provide individual and personal replies.
However another added they had not seen her until the last six months when “she knew an election was coming”.
Ms Cane, speaking after she found out she was now the MP, said: “We've been strong in the area for some time, we have a lot of district and county councillors who have worked hard for the community.
"Also, frankly, people are very angry with the Conservative Party."
Ms Cane joins 72 Lib Dem MPs to be elected in what was a historic night for the party under Sir Ed Davey's leadership.
