The 1st Ely Scouts group can buy new tents to replace their decade-old damaged ones thanks to a £448 donation from a Cambridgeshire housing development company.

Brian Calvert, group lead volunteer, said: “It’s fantastic to receive this donation from Redrow and will have a huge impact on children in the local community who want to camp, as well as encouraging children to spend more time outdoors.

"We rely on kind donations such as this to continue to help subsidise children from low-income families, as we believe that all youngsters should have the chance to learn important skills that they can keep for life."

Andrew Newman, sales director at Redrow South Midlands, who are building at Tudor Meadow, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Ely Scouts to encourage youngsters to spend more time outdoors.

“Ely Scouts ensure that children have the opportunity to experience adventures, earn badges and learn survival skills, as well as build new friendships."
