An award-winning novelist is coming to Ely in August for the launch of his latest novel, Precipice.

Robert Harris, who is perhaps best known for his World War Two novel, Fatherland, will be at Toppings books on August 28 from 7:30pm.

He'll be there to discuss his new book, Precipice, which is set in the summer of 1914, when the world "is on the brink of catastrophe".

The novel is about a 26-year-old woman called Venetia Stanley who begins a love affair with a man who is twice her age, H. H. Asquith - the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Asquith writes to Venetia and tells her sensitive matters of the state, but when Asquith leads the country into World War One, top secret documents are leaked - including the information that the Prime Minister sent to Venetia.
