A German Shepherd is battling cancer thanks to her owners and a Cambridgeshire-based animal hospital.

Brave Skyla, aged seven, receives chemotherapy at Linnaeus-owned DWR Veterinary Specialists.

Her owners expressed their gratitude, saying, "we’re lucky to have her with us for longer."

Her owner, Richard Davies, reflected on the shocking news, recollecting how Skyla remained playful and energetic despite the diagnosis.

He said: “We were in shock, disbelief and crushed, as Skyla was acting completely normal.

"She was still very playful, eating plenty and full of life.

"The diagnosis didn’t match the energy she had.”

Despite going into remission once, the resilient canine's cancer returned.

Richard, however, remains determined and hopeful, he said: “We were reassured that chemotherapy was absolutely worth trying and it would buy us more time with our beloved girl.

“It has done just that.

"Skyla is still doing well but sadly the cancer has returned.

"But she’s strong and well enough to have a few more treatments.

"She’s a little more tired these days but still finds plenty of energy to chase the kids around."

Richard also extended his gratitude to the staff at DWR, commending their professionalism and attention towards Skyla's well-being.

Filipa Lyseight, a specialist in oncology at DWR Veterinary Specialists, said: “Skyla is a wonderful dog and we’re determined to do the best for her and her owners, as with all our patients.

“A cancer diagnosis is always a shock but Skyla and her owners continue to show a battling spirit and to enjoy the time they have together to the most.”
