You could say that Littleport has a wellbeing factor that’s historically woven into its everyday life, says Ely Standard columnist Lyn Gibb de Swarte.

Elected civic guardians, the town council take care of its democratic daily functions, while there are many other groups that spread cheer.

These include the Town Land Charity which generally assists needy residents and owns property it rents to eligible citizens.

TLC recently bought the old Salvation Army Hall, refurbished and renamed it Feoffees Hall, wherein various beneficial activities take place. Every second Tuesday (next one June 25) from 10-12 noon, they lay on coffee and cake and a sociable get-together for over 60’s.

But there is a ‘World Wellbeing Week’ with many events taking place from Monday June 24 to Sunday 30. And as expected, Littleport is participating with gusto.

After this weekend with entertainment at all its hostelries – including on Saturday night, Stepback Duo at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club and the best Elvis tribute act going, internationally famous Dave Elvis Black at The Crown - at Littleport Leisure from Monday to Saturday anyone attending any class can have free coffee or tea during the entire day for Wellbeing Week.

And Monday from 5-7pm for 11-16-year-olds, St George’s Church have their Sport and Wellbeing Group with games etc.

Older people are literally catered for - on Tuesday 10.45-1pm Connections Café at St George’s has a free lunch and talk by Timebank’s genial Stephen Cole on how particular herbs and weeds can improve our health and wellbeing.

On Wednesday from 11-11.45 at the Youth and Community building Cornfield Lane, Healthy You East Cambs offers advice on lifestyle and exercise/healthy eating – and from 2-4pm at the village hall, the Field Theatre Group hosts a free strawberry tea with a singalong and hand massages.

The Littleport Band were in stunning form for their concert in Ely Cathedral last weekend. As well as acclaimed soloist Mike Lovatt, the organist Stanley Godfrey playing the Organ Symphony with panache gave an extra dimension to their brass repertoire.
