Littleport loves having a good time while raising money for good causes, says columnist Lyn Gibb de Swarte.

And last weekend’s CrownFest and Bike Show - presented by the Crown Inn at 34 Main Street - was testament to that, raising £4,050 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Hosts Sara Alexander and Rob Clarey thanked everyone afterwards, saying: “Lanterns Motor Cycle Club, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

They expressed gratitude to all their staff by name, and Mark King and Percy Coulson, and told David Murfitt, their compere and DJ for the event that he had done a fantastic job.

“Our thanks also to everyone who came along and supported us. We love the community spirit we saw in action.”

This Saturday (June 1) Derek Timbers, entertainments manager for the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club on Ponts Hill, is laying on the family disco night with his Intercity Disco.

He says “everyone is welcome including children.” Starts at 7.30pm and members are free, guests, £3. All children are free.

Before that, between 10am and 2pm, there’s a craft fair at the Adams Heritage Centre, 17 Main Street, organised by Littleport Crafting’s Sukie Hoyle in collaboration with Littleport Timebank.

Handmade Jewellery, knitted things and items you can give as gifts will be on sale. Refreshments available too.

Littleport Crafting meets every first and third Saturday, from 2-4pm.

The Crown has the Reflex Duo playing 80s music Saturday night.

Next Friday (June 7) at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club, Timebank secretary Chris Bennett will be asking the questions in the fundraising quiz night for Macmillan. £2 per person, two to six people per team.

And Chris says, “donations of raffle prizes are very welcome.” Drop them into the club.

And, looking ahead again, in the band room behind the club, Littleport’s famous brass band is busily rehearsing for the big concert at Ely Cathedral on Saturday June 15 with soloist, trumpet virtuoso, Mike Lovatt at 7.30pm.

For a multitude of varied activities go to www.littleportwhatson.co.uk or drop by the Littleport Leisure Centre in Camel Road to discover what they have to offer.

Their informative reception desk is crewed by manager Clare Pendle and her team.
