Littleport’s raft of services, sport and recreation activities, demonstrate its care and provision on every level for those who live in the village that recently became a town.

Littleport has - as you would expect - an independent food bank and hub, based at St George’s Church. It’s open Tuesdays and Fridays 10.30-12 noon, and of course donations are always welcome; drop them at the church or at both Co-ops, or One Stop in Wisbech Road.

This Saturday, May 11, Crown Inn customers can let their hair down to the 70s sounds of Cambridgeshire rock group Highway Star from 9-11.30pm.

And Littleport will be literally blowing its own trumpet when the Littleport Brass Band is in concert on Sunday May 12 at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club from 3 until 5pm. Children are very welcome and it’s £10, £5 concessions and under 14s free on the door.

The band will play an assortment of tunes including film themes, popular classics and brass band favourites, all introduced with wit and knowledge by Littleport’s own maestro, conductor Ian Johnson.

The Swan at 1 Sandhill on the river offers fine dining, boutique hotel rooms and music, while the Plough and Harrow, 61 Ely Road, has a beer garden, regular entertainment, (McSkaThy last weekend) is family and dog friendly and does evening food and a tasty Sunday roast.

Starting their appreciation of musical fun early, Littleport Library on the corner of Granby Street and Victoria Street, invites babies, toddlers and their responsible adult carers/parents to have some fun singing songs and rhymes from 10.30-11am on Monday May 13. It’s free. More info 03450455225.

Sport and recreation hub Littleport Leisure also hosts the School of Dance classes for pre-school, beginners and juniors on Friday May 10 from 3.45-6.45pm. 01353373800.
