Ross David Trent has been elected as the new councillor for Ely West Ward following a by-election on April 18.
He took nearly half the votes (1125) in a decisive victory against Conservative challenger David Ambrose Smith (760), and Labour’s Adam Wilson (466).
Liberal Democrat William Novick was also elected to the city council, following a separate vote.
Jafar Mirza (Independent), Jane Morgan (Independent), Ed Perrin (Independent) and Amelia Ellen Quince (Labour Party) were nominated for the city council election alongside Cllr Novick.
In the district elections voters chose from three candidates to become one of 28 elected members of East Cambridgeshire District Council.
The elections were called following the resignation of Rob Pitt as both city and district councillor for Ely West.
Both saw a turnout of just over 33%, with a combined total of 4,741 votes cast and 83 rejected votes.
There are currently 15 members on The City of Ely Parish Council. These include three for Ely East Ward, five for Ely North Ward, one for Ely Cathedral Ward and six for Ely West Ward.
