A trio of Cambridgeshire landmarks will light up in green this weekend to highlight the work of the Samaritans ahead of this year's London Marathon.
Ely Cathedral, Cambridge Guildhall and the Queens' College Mathematical Bridge will display the charity's colour to raise awareness of the Samaritans service.
To celebrate the charity’s special role in the marathon on Saturday, April 20, volunteers from Cambridge Samaritans will be out in Cambridge Market Square during the afternoon.
Members of the public are encouraged to talk to volunteers, take a contact card and even take a selfie with the charity’s “photo frame”.
Collection buckets and contactless machines will also be on hand for passers by to donate.
The charity relies heavily on the public's generosity to continue to answer the phones and emails from those in crisis.
Cambridge Samaritans volunteers answer more than 2000 calls every month.
The charity provides emotional support to anyone who is feeling distressed or overwhelmed by life and circumstances.
Samaritans can be reached in confidence with no judgement and no pressure.
They can be reached on freephone 116 123 or by email at jo@samaritans.ie.
