An application has been submitted to extend the Cambridge e-scooter scheme by another two years and expand it into neighbouring areas, such as Waterbeach.
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority made its case to the Department for Transport for funding earlier this month.
A spokesperson said: “The Department for Transport invited the Combined Authority to submit an application for a proportion expansion of our existing trial zone.
“To prepare our bid for a potential extension, we have had conversations with South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council about and outward expansion of the existing trial area.
“The Combined Authority are unable to significantly expand the trial zone across the wider region due to the limited scope of the expansion.”
The matter has been discussed by the authority’s Transport and Infrastructure Committee.
As well as Waterbeach, other areas being considered for the scheme are Northstowe, Horningsea, Babraham and Cambridge University’s Laundry Farm and sports facility.
Further discussions will also take place with the relevant councils and residents in Great Shelford, Grantchester, Teversham, the Marleigh Development and Fulborn.
