Members of the Ely City Women’s Institute (ECWI) have taken time to celebrate their achievements.
With Easter already behind them, members took time during their meeting last week to recognise those who have shone over the past twelve months.
A welcoming and creative group, ECWI boasts a rich and diverse alliance with many talents, interests, and skills between them.
Among its many activities, the ECWI recently launched a campaign to raise awareness of climate change.
Dubbed #showthelove, members knitted, drew, and sewed and crocheted green hearts, all of which are on display, to decorate the city of Ely.
The aim of the Women's Institute's public display is to make a call for a cleaner and greener world.
For outstanding Baking, the ECWI Rolling Pin was awarded to Helen Merrick. Second Place was Diane Banahan and third place Ruth Sindall.
The ECWI Craft Cup was awarded to Jane Blanks with second place going to Helen Merrick and third place Wendy Gammon.
The ECWI President's Cup was awarded to Helen Merrick. Second place went to Diane Banahan and third place to Patricia Canham.
The Sue Stuart Memorial cup for an outstanding contribution to Ely City WI was awarded to Veronica Stubbings.
A spokesperson for the Ely City Women’s Institute said: “Each year we have the competitions that are part of the meetings, and every member can participate.
“This year it has been a joy to celebrate, and the effort made by all the participants has been second to none.
“Each of the award winners are so well-deserved and the atmosphere at presentation time was fantastic!”
ECWI have a full and varied programme over the coming months and is keen to grow its membership.
Members meet at Bishop Laney Sixth Form, Downham Road, CB6 2SH on the second Monday of each month, starting at 7.00pm until approximately 9.00pm.
The next meeting will be on 13th May and will be a Sea Shanty Workshop with Stuart Green.
