Littleport likes to mix fun, competition, and fundraising, whether it directly or indirectly impacts on Littleport residents.

This Friday night, April 12, there is a super quiz at the Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club (CB6 1PZ) that’s raising money – and accepting suitable goods – for the Buddy Bag Project.

A 7.30 for 8pm start, at £2 per person 2-6 in a team, this is a joint effort by the project, organised by the town council’s community youth worker, Joanne Coe, and the Littleport Repair Café hosted by Littleport and Ely Timebank.

The very first of the Repair Café monthly openings will be at Adams Heritage Centre, 17 Main Street, on Saturday April 27 from 2-5pm.

Chris Bennett, the popular quizmaster, is with Timebank and says “a Buddy Bag is a bag of personal toiletries provided to Littleport youngsters who are in difficult circumstances.

"These include living in a hostel or temporary accommodation or going into care.

“Please bring donations of toiletries – and raffle prizes”.

The other sponsor, Repair Café, matches experienced repairers to household items, electrical appliances, jewellery etc., that need fixing, for a nominal donation of £5 each. For more info or to book, 07359851246.

Littleport Bowls Club at 26a Hempfield Place held fundraisers, and this Friday (April 13) at their members’ supper on the opening day of the new season, they will present the East Anglian Air Ambulance with a cheque for £1,750.

Their charity for this year’s efforts is the Motor Neurone Disease Association and starts with a fundraising coffee morning Friday April 26.

Linda Wright is secretary of Littleport Bowls Club and a good player.

Although she hadn’t played all season, she has just won the end of season indoor ladies pairs, at the West Row Club, for the third time, with her equally excellent bowls partner Lynne Papworth who is also Littleport Bowls Club Treasurer.

Linda says: “We will be running our open evenings on the second Wednesday of the month starting May 8, from 6.30-8pm, for people to come and have a go.”

Linda’s daughter is newly-qualified bowls coach Jess Rayment who will be in helpful attendance. For more daily events www.littleportwhatson.co.uk
