Audiences can experience the absurdist world of artist Mack Mathod at a new exhibition on display at the Babylon Gallery.
Showcasing a range of poetry reflecting the artist's own, often bizarre, experiences from 2023, 'Poems, Pictures and Poppycock' aims to amuse visitors through words and images.
Last year, Mathod set himself the task of producing a poem every day from January 31 to December 31, combining the outcomes with illustrative work.
The showcase will feature humorous poems and images along with a bizarre selection titled ‘Things You Didn’t know about Ely’.
New publications also include ‘A Poem a day’ and ‘Bloody Artists’.
Among his work he suggests that Ely Cathedral was once nearly sabotaged by French builders during an ancient flood so that they could float it into the North Sea and claim it for France.
The artist also claims it was recently discovered Oliver Cromwell was a passionate banjo player and hairdresser who had a 23-lane ten pin bowling alley under his house.
Mathod’s surreal work has been exhibited in solo exhibitions all over the country.
Babylon Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm to 4pm with free entry.
