South East Cambridgeshire MP, Lucy Frazer, visited Bottisham Community Primary School for the launch of the Premier League's 'Primary Stars Kit Scheme'.
Two Ely primary schools received the football kit giveaway from the Premier League, as well as several in East Cambridgeshire.
The scheme is designed to encourage more young girls to participate in football, and teachers were able to apply for the Nike football kit for their girls' teams.
To celebrate the girls' football team at Bottisham Community Primary School receiving the kit, Lucy Frazer MP made a visit.
The official Premier League trophy also arrived at the school, where many children were able to have a photo taken with it.
Lucy Frazer, MP for South East Cambridgeshire, said: “I am delighted that so many girls' teams have received their free Primary Stars kits from the Premier League.
“Alongside this, South East Cambridgeshire has received hundreds of thousands of pounds of Government sports facilities funding in the last few years – including recently in Haddenham, Waterbeach, Stretham, Burwell, Fordham and Linton – increasing access and opportunities for women and girls to engage in sport.
“The Government is also building on the recommendations in Karen Carney’s independent review into women’s football by investing £30 million into football pitches In England that will prioritise women and girls’ teams, helping to create another generation of Lionesses.”
Richard Masters, Premier League chief executive, said: “Football is a game that everyone can enjoy, and it has the ability to empower and inspire young people in the classroom, the playground and on the pitch."
