Basecoat Collective will be taking over Babylon Gallery in Ely to showcase a pop-up installation constructed entirely from recycled materials.
Th exhibition will be open to the public for a limited run of two days, on December 30 and 31.
Basecoat Collective is a group formed from the Babylon Young Associates, which came about through the Babylon Young Curators project earlier this year.
The collective consists of emerging artists from the local area aged 18-25.
For the new year, they are constructing an ambitious sculptural piece called ‘THE HOUSE’, using recycled materials, donated by local businesses and people.
“The work will be constructed entirely from ‘waste’ materials that would otherwise be seeing the dazzling interior of a bin bag, during this season of frivolous – but admittedly enjoyable – excess” say the group.
They hope that this piece will act as a reflection upon times gone by, asking thought-provoking questions, as well as being a hopeful gaze toward the future.
The installation will be featured alongside the Babylon Winter Open, ‘Small, but perfect’, for the final two days of the exhibition.
THE HOUSE will be open to the public from 12-4pm, at Babylon Gallery, with free entry.
Basecoat Collective will be in the gallery throughout to chat about the work.
