A Community Cafe in Sutton has presented more than £1,700 in donations to two good causes at a presentation day on November 8.
Every six months the volunteers at Nellie's Community Cafe choose two charities to support. Since May, the cafe has been supporting Sutton Open Spaces Group and The Alzheimer's Society
Sutton Open Spaces Group received a cheque for £574. Chairman Janet Porter said: “ Sutton Open Spaces Group was set up in 2019 with the proceeds of a successful village ‘Open Gardens’.
"Its objective is to make the many open spaces in Sutton more attractive. We have planted several area of Spring bulbs and, with the support of ECDC, more than 20 additional trees.
"We have ambitious plans for more bulbs, seasonal planters and wild flowers and the very generous donation from Nellie's Community Cafe will allow us to take these forward."
Jane Wicks and Janet Townsin, from Sutton accepted the cheque for £1,148 on behalf of The Alzheimer's Society.
Jane said: “On behalf of The Alzheimer's Society I would like to say a massive 'thank you' to Nellie's Community Cafe and their customers for raising such a wonderful amount.
"The Alzheimer's Society couldn’t do the work they do without the generous support of people like you.
"By supporting this charity you are providing a vital support and a powerful force for change for everyone affected by dementia.”
The next two charities to receive Nellie's support are Sutton Bowls Club and Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Nellie's Community Cafe is held on the second Wednesday and last Friday of each month at Scott Court, Pound Lane in Sutton, from 10am to 2pm
