A shell-shocked Ely City FC has crashed out of the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup after conceding four goals in 25 second half minutes to lose 4-1 to Histon FC.
A cool Josh Hales finish had put the Robins in control in the first half, but a ruthless and clinical display from Histon after the break punished the unfortunate Ely.
Ely dominated and started the second half as brightly as the first, with the opposition keeper having to make a few blinding saves to prevent the Robins from extending their lead.
The game was then turned on its head after 70 minutes when a rare attack from Histon resulted in an equaliser, and then three minutes later, they took a shock lead when a low-driven cross ended up in Ely's net.
The Robins threw men forward in search of an equaliser but were caught cold by Histon on the break when Connor Barnes slotted in his second goal of the game to put the game to bed.

To add insult to injury, a Histon long ball forward evaded the outrushing Ely Keeper for Histon's Luke Crisp to walk in a 4th goal.
The ruthless finishing of Histon proved to be the difference on the day, and the match-winning performance by Histon's keeper Sam Roach between the sticks.
Ely City are back in action away to Brantham Atheltic in the league this Saturday (November 11), who only sit one place above them in 16th in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.
