An "exciting, visceral and contemporary" production of Shakespeare's epic tragedy Macbeth is heading to Cambridge Arts Theatre.
The famous play tells the story of a struggling and divided nation which is tearing itself apart.
When the Macbeths see their chance at the crown, why shouldn't they take it? However things do not go according to plan.
Dreams quickly turn into nightmares, humanity erodes and nature stirs. As society strives to make sense of the darkness that sits inside it, how long will it take for people to fight back against the endless cycle of violence and corruption?
Macbeth, which is otherwise known as The Scottish Play, is thought to have first been performed in 1606.
Some of the world's most renowned actors have been attracted to the titular role of Macbeth, including Laurence Olivier and Ian McKellen.
Most recently Saoirse Ronan starred in Macbeth at the Almeida Theatre in London, while Daniel Craig and Ruth Negga starred in an adaptation on Broadway.
This production, directed by Richard Twyman, is presented by English Touring Theatre (ETT), who are a UK-based international touring company.
Aiming to stage a balance of new and classic work, ETT's goal is to "spark dialogue and foster connectivity".
In the last five years, ETT has produced more than 55 live productions and digital content, enjoyed by audiences of over 340,000.
They won the UK Theatre Awards Best Touring Production in 2014, 2015 and 2016, and Best Play Revival in 2019.
Other recent productions include I, Daniel Blake and The Importance of Being Earnest.
