Lyn Gibb-de Swart talks about the many ‘wellbeing’ initiatives taking place in Littleport in her latest column.
There are many and various ‘wellbeing’ initiatives around the country – and there is an officially convened event next Thursday (October 19) in Littleport.
A community information drop-in is being held from 10-1pm at Littleport Village Hall.
It’s part of ‘Wellbeing Week’ and the ‘Keeping Well over Winter Project’ in a collaboration between Littleport Town Council, St. George’s Church, St. George’s Surgery and Alzheimer’s UK.
The clue to the amount of wellbeing that already exists in Littleport is in the list of active local community groups having tables on the day, too numerous to mention here.
Wednesday 18 from 10-12 noon at the village hall, specifically for Wellbeing Week, there is a one-off singing session of well-known songs, with cups of tea too, for residents 65+ arranged by Littleport Town Council and run by ‘All In Sound’. More info: 01353 662022.
On Thursday 19 from 10.30am-noon, the Vine Community Church has its weekly Coffee Break.
And at the village hall from 2-4pm (£3) there’s a seniors’ get-together with refreshments and a raffle organised by LTC worker Kathryn Buck.
Kathryn also leads the Littleport Community Singers, and they rehearse from 5.30-7pm every Thursday at the council offices in The Barn. No audition, just turn up. Call 07904817941.
They sang beautifully at the St George’s Church Autumn Fayre/Harvest Festival last weekend, and you can enjoy a second Saturday of the month coffee morning in the refectory this Saturday (14) from 9-11.30am.
Then there is the healthy and sociable Littleport parkrun outside Littleport Leisure Centre, where elite runners to slow walkers gather in good spirits at the start of the 5k every Saturday at 9am.
And for Wellbeing Week (October 16-22), the centre is offering a £10 class pass for their many indoor classes from chair yoga to walking netball to child-friendly fitness sessions.
On Saturday night, you're spoiled for choice: The Crown Inn presents free entertainment ‘MC SKA THY’ from 8.30 -11.30pm, Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club has a free jukebox, all welcome to relax in newly refurbished surroundings, and the Swan and the Plough and Harrow offer a good night out too.
