A village foodswap scheme has been rescued thanks to a £500 grant that will allow them to continue providing for the next five months.
In order to help people in need in Witchford, a kind villager gave a donation to start a foodswap several years ago.
Ever since, on every first and third Wednesday of the month, food has been left outside St Andrew’s Hall for people in need to collect from.
It is left overnight so that people can do so anonymously.
"While the villagers are generally generous in their offer of food, it usually needs topping up with provisions bought with grants," said Witchford foodswap organiser Rosemary Westwell.
However, when there was only money left for two more deliveries, the Rotary Club of Ely came to the rescue and provided a grant of £500.
"This is wonderful news," added Rosemary.
"We can now provide sufficient food for the next five months, which is so important considering food prices have increased so much."
