There is a plethora of opportunities to enjoy yourself in Littleport, from the sedate to the physically exertive, and from no age to old age.
Schools are out for the summer and there is a full programme of events for eight-year-olds and over. Contact Joanne Coe, Littleport Town Council youth worker, and organiser of The Port youth group, for info on 07988 477255.
The Port meets at the Littleport Youth and Community Centre in Cornfield Lane CB61EX and this Saturday (July 22) from 11am to 1pm, it starts the vacation with a giant jumble sale raising funds for the club.
Back in 1906, Littleport Town Football Club was established, and still plays in the Sunday league.
Their home ground is Littleport Leisure Centre, where player Adam Gayfer is part of the hard-working and welcoming admin team.
Also inaugurated in the summer of 1906, albeit in the Netherlands, was the game of Korfball – Korf means basket in Dutch – and based at the centre, the successful Littleport Lions Korfball Club was founded here in 2001.
The first team is Cambridgeshire Div 2 Champions. With a development team and looking to welcome new members this summer they are running a free series of Tuesday night sessions from 8pm to 9.30pm for age 13 plus.
The current players age range is from 15 to 48. It’s a mixed non-contact team game where men and women play together, with four male and four female in each side.
And their membership roll with some cosmopolitan surnames certainly reflects the fact that Littleport has always had a proportion of newcomers who have brought an interesting je ne sais quoi to the village over the years.
And some ancient Indian mind-calming, and body stretching, is to be found in the yoga classes (£6) of Mme Sophie Taffara at the Leisure Centre on Wednesdays from 6.15-7.15pm and Fridays 10-11am.
On Saturday morning, from 9.15-10.45am, the fun skate costs £3.50.
And Littleport parkrun starts outside at 9am - the bar is open for hot and cold drinks too.
