St Andrew’s Church in Witchford celebrated King Charles III’s Coronation in style.
The celebrations started with the village coronation lunch on Friday May 5 in the church hall organised by Gill Brand and her team.
It was a grand occasion and included a chance to stand in a cut out picture of the King and Queen and the opportunity to win at a special Coronation Bingo.
On Saturday 6, Sunday 7 and Monday 8, under the keen leadership of Caroline Hammill, there was a wonderful flower festival.
It was estimated that there were hundreds of visitors over the weekend who came to see it and one distinctive comment was heard to say that the visitor had never seen the church looking so good.
There were sashes and trumpets decorating the pew ends, the Kings Cypher was behind the altar, and there were window contributions from the Rackham School, the Rainbows, the Brownies, Witchford Childminders, Witchford WI, and Witchford Team D.
Caroline designed a large golden coach that was in the porch. She is pictured beside the coach with her husband Bill.
Bunting was put up in the trees in the churchyard. A crown was put on the entrance to the church and lights added to the decorations. Thanks to George Jellicoe and his team, the star on the tower of the church also shone every evening.
There was practically non-stop, serving of teas, coffees and cakes with a number of volunteers in Caroline’s team helping.
The visitors’ book had pages of entries from very impressed visitors.
This must be the most successful event of the year. It is so pleasing to see the church looking so beautiful and to see so many people come to appreciate it.
Thanks must go to Caroline Hammill and her team and to the Parish Council for their support for the cost of some of the flowers.
