Littleport is inexorably connected to the patron saint of England, St George.

The parish church, built in the 14th century, is named after him. And what better way to honour St George’s Day, on April 23, than to extoll the virtues of Littleport’s St George’s Medical Centre.

Founded in 2002, a staff of 50 currently offer first class care and attention to the needs of around 12,200 patients.

There is an active Patients Participation Group, PPG, and a website for comprehensive information: www.stgeorges-littleport.co.uk

Last Sunday, the vicar of St George’s, Rev Natalie Andrews, the C of E Sport and Wellbeing Project Lead, who is also a Littleport parkrunner, was running in the Manchester Marathon raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This Sunday, Reverend Andrews will be taking a special St George’s Day service at 10am and the Littleport Scouting Group will add their presence too. Information on www.littleportparishchurch.org.uk

The East Anglian Air Ambulance benefited when Littleport Bowls Club opened the new season with a supper that raised £190, a good start, and presented a cheque for £2,750 amassed by the end of last season, to EAAA representatives Emma and Jane.

There are defibrillators purchased for the community by the PULSE group (patients, users and lenders of special equipment) around Littleport. And there’s one outside the village hall.

The hall is always busy, it’s available to hire, and multi-talented singer songwriter Tia Colcomb’s Bumbly Bees music group are there 10-11am on Tuesdays for 0-4year-olds and their parents/carers. www.bumblybeesmusicgroup.co.uk

A quantum leap takes us across the generations to next Thursday, and the regular village hall social for older people from 2-4.15pm includes a speaker from the Cambridgeshire Constabulary on avoiding scams.

Saturday night, Littleport Ex-Servicemen’s Club has the Silhouette Duo and the Crown Inn has Steve Moyse. On Sunday, St George’s Day, Graham Buxton performs from 3-6pm.
