A wellness garden now open in Ely could become an idea that enables residents across the city to improve their mental health.
Councillor Rob Pitt, president of St John Ambulance’s [SJA] Ely branch, was joined by SJA cadets and an SJA badger for the opening in Abbots Way on April 2.
Cllr Richard Morgan, The Right Worshipful Mayor to the City of Ely, also attended and was one of several people that showed their appreciation for the garden.
“The opening went very well; the mayor and I are aiming to establish a fund through the city council to enable projects like this across Ely,” said Mr Pitt.
The garden, named St John’s Retreat, is due to include fruit trees and pollination beds and act as a training space for SJA in the summer.

Mr Pitt hopes it can allow people to try and tackle mental health issues through the garden.
He added: “My hope is that this idea inspires other ones across the city that our resources, network, influence can then fund, support and approve.”
