A school in Soham, alongside the town’s football teams, is aiming to raise £125,000 for a full-size 3G football pitch that will ‘be a huge asset to the town for years to come’.
Soham Village College (SVC) has come together with Soham Town Rangers, Soham Town Youth and Soham United with the shared ambition to build the pitch on SVC’s playing fields.
The pitch will provide a fun, safe place for sporting activities and will provide equal opportunity for everyone in the community to play football.
With more than 25 football teams in the town that cater for youth and adult inclusive football, the college and teams believe that Soham desperately needs investment in sports facilities.
A group from SVC called the 3G Pitch Working Group is working with Cambridgeshire Football Association and the Football Foundation to secure partnership funding for the project.
Facilities manager at Staploe Education Trust, Ross Knappett, said: “This is an exciting project for the school, partner clubs and the community.
“This will create extra opportunities for sudents at Soham Village College to participate in sports during the school day and provide local clubs from Soham and the surrounding areas first class training facilities all year round.”
To reach the £125,000 goal, the group is going to start a campaign on social media as well as a GoFundMe page and each youth football team from each club will be tasked with raising £1,000.
However, the school also needs help from the community to ‘bring this project to life’.
Look out for bake sales, bag packing, car washing, raffles, and much more over the coming weeks and months to help them reach their target.
