More than 160 homes with less than a third being made affordable are due to be built.
Outline planning permission was given to develop the land off Mepal Road, Sutton in April.
And a reserved matters application with more detailed plans for 164 of the homes were given the go-ahead by East Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning committee on December 7.
The homes are due to be a mix of one to four bedrooms, with 112 planned to be put on the market for sale and 52 made available as affordable housing.
The plans, submitted by Vistry Homes Limited, also include communal outdoor areas, a burial ground and sports pitches.
Planning officers noted that there were noise concerns for some of the homes to the north-east of the site closer to the A142.
A 2.5-metre high ‘noise bund’ included in the plans to mitigate some of the noise.
But officers explained that around 11 of the homes would need mechanical ventilation due to high noise levels from outside.
A report given to planners said the scheme “does include a number of dwellings which would need to rely on mechanical means of ventilation in order to achieve acceptable internal noise levels to some first-floor bedrooms.
“Whilst this weighs negatively against the scheme, it is acknowledged that alternative designs and mitigation has been explored and that only a small number of dwellings are reliant on this design.”
Rebecca Smith, a representative of the applicant, said the developer had worked with officers at the district council.
Ms Smith added she has also worked with other consultees, parish councils, people living in the area and had taken on board comments about what they had wanted to see.
She said: “We do believe that what we have here is a well-designed, visually attractive place to live.”
Councillor David Brown said plenty of work has gone into the plans for what he called “a very desirable scheme.
“The fact that there are no comments from parish or ward councillors on a scheme of this size speaks volumes to me.”
Cllr Brown added: “I am more than happy to go with the officer’s recommendation.”
Councillors voted in favour of approving the application.
